About the chef

me_forweb

Thanks for visiting my blog. Please allow me to introduce myself…

Location: I’ve lived in Roanoke, Va., since January 2009 working as a multimedia producer for The Roanoke Times and roanoke.com.

The Back Story: I graduated from Appalachian State University in May of ‘08 where I spent the majority of my time as the online editor of my campus newspaper, The Appalachian. I also spent a lot of time cheering on the Mountaineer football team (yeah, we beat Michigan).

After graduation, I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a summer fellow in the Poynter Institute for Media Studies’ Summer Fellowship for Young Journalists (long title, I know). While I was there, I was an editor/producer in a team of five journalists covering the Gulfport and Pasadena neighborhoods of St. Petersburg, Fla.

After the Poynter Institute, I worked as a multimedia intern at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where I did a lot of video work along with interactive graphic design. I also learned a thing or two about toasted ravioli and the hidden gem that is East St. Louis.

Aside From Journalism: I grew up in North Canton, Ohio, only a short drive from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Thus, I am a big sports fan - especially when it comes to Cleveland sports. I enjoy playing guitar, snowboarding, running, hiking, photography, and making ridiculous movies with my friends. Yes, I do have friends and am trying to get one of them to move to Roanoke so he can split my rent. His name is Jason Mills and he needs a job!
