As I promised yesterday, here’s the the May Wildflower graphic that ran today. I’m really happy with it because it incorporates audio, video and our new Flash template.
I also redesigned the April Wildflower graphic. It used to be a pop-out graphic that was pretty nifty in terms of navigation, but it wasn’t nearly as [...]

I’ve been busy lately, really. But the truth about this week-long drought is that my computer is getting slower by the day, and the simple task of posting a blog update from home is getting pretty frustrating.
But anyway, enough of my rants.
On Sunday, the Cabell Brand interactive timeline ran after more than a month [...]

What a beautiful weekend! The weather was incredible in Roanoke and Boone, N.C. (which is where I ended up thanks to a spur-of-the-moment decision Friday night).
But not getting off topic here, I wanted to just post links to two things that were published since my last post.
The first was a video on tire pile [...]

It’s been a week since my last post, so I do apologize. Going home for Easter kind of threw a wrench in my blog updating routine.
Al Jazeera English was in The Roanoke Times’ newsroom Wednesday. They were working on a piece about how large metropolitan newspapers are struggling while some medium-size papers are [...]

I got the spring fever for baseball, and it has nothing to do with my beloved Cleveland Indians.

In order to fight budget deficits, the board voted to privatize the school bus system. The board also voted to lay off 58 employees, including 15 teachers.
Like my previous man-on-the-street video at the school board meeting, this video had great page [...]

A behind the scenes video I did of RT photographer Jeanna Duerscherl’s photo shoot of two area swimmers was published Sunday.
It’s the type of video that isn’t normally shown on newspaper websites, and it’s also the kind of video that isn’t normally considered when looking at the three typical newspaper video genres (event, feature and [...]

Received an e-mail this morning from friend and former Bulldozer Production member Ben Park with this tidbit of information.
Harvesting Wind: North Carolina’s Alternative Progress was chosen as a national “Video Documentary Program” finalist (No. 206 if you’re still scrolling down that .pdf). I’m not sure about who won because I didn’t even know we [...]

What a fun day! I got to hang out at Roanoke’s Firehouse No. 3 and ride around in their fire truck.
I really felt like a little kid again staring at all the gears, hoses, valves and enormous tires. Though I’m not sure when the video will be done/published, I’ll definitely post the link.
In [...]

I’m sorry for not updating in a while. But I’ve been busy.
A lot of my friends came to visit me this past weekend and another is coming this Saturday.
So anyhow, I really haven’t updated my blog the way I should have. Check out my heavy metal mecca video that was published [...]
