The title of this post basically sums it up. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, Cassell is home for the Virginia Tech men and women’s basketball teams and is VERY loud.
Since it was the men’s final home game Wednesday against NC State, fellow RT photographer Matt Gentry suggested I make the long, [...]

I spent Saturday morning on my first ever birding tour with bird and nature expert Clyde Kessler.
I didn’t realize that 215 different species of birds decide to make Radford, Va., their home at some point during the year. Pretty remarkable.
Radford also lays claim to the largest winter roost for vultures in the country, which [...]

Although it looks like I’ve been slacking off in the video department lately, I’ve actually been finishing up this 2009 Year In Review video with co-worker Jordan Fifer. All in all, it took a solid month to complete … that’s with December/January vacations added to the equation.
Either way, I’d love to hear feedback.

While I was home for Thanksgiving, the final Under 21 article was published. This means that the entire project is finally complete! This includes 14 articles, four comprehensive graphics including a Roanoke Times’ survey of all 44 four-year Virginia universities and colleges, a vast collection of videos that includes a 15-minute overview video [...]

The Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association hosted its annual City/County swim meet this Friday and Saturday at the Salem YMCA.
The video was fun, although I think the visuals in the video are stronger than the story itself. I tried to focus on the behind-the-scenes aspect of the volunteers and preparation but most of my footage [...]

The sixth Harry Potter movie, The Half-Blood Prince, came out at midnight yesterday so I went down to the Carmike 10 movie theater to talk to fans who had lined up in preparation. Some fans had been at the theater since [...]

From right, Chris Jones, Mike Ruggieri and yours truly atop Grandfather Mountain in Linville, N.C., after running The Bear. The Bear is a five-mile race from Linville, N.C., to the top of Grandfather Mountain, an elevation climb of nearly 1,600 feet.
It’s been a while, but I’m back in the pulpit.
I was in North Carolina for [...]

I had two videos published today, one on a local pool champion’s practice routine and the other on the Virginia school bus rodeo (or should I say, road-e-o?).
The pool video was shot with the 5D Mark II camera while the school bus video was shot with our standard tape-deck camera (Canon Vixia HV30).
The visual difference [...]

Honestly, the biggest guys I’ve ever seen in my life - Mark Henry and Roanoke’s own Tony Atlas (Mark is on my left, Tony on my right).
I got to spend all day with these guys on Monday in preparation for their ECW wrestling match Tuesday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. It was probably one [...]

The best part of my job is that it’s something different every day. I often find myself thinking, “Wow, I never knew I’d be here when I walked into work today.”
That “Wow” moment happened again this afternoon, as I found myself talking with Brian Frasure, a paralympic gold medalist and certified prosthetist. Brian [...]
